Questions about the houses
These are the questions I expect before a reader asks the desk to check a room: what is oldest, what is newest, who owns and operates the houses today by the record, what 18+ means on the floor, and what this site can and cannot do.

The ten — Questions
Before you write
This page answers the practical questions that sit behind all ten essays. For the full order, read the ten houses; for the weighting behind that order, read how the houses are ranked. Australia’s online casino position is not a side issue here: under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, online casino play is banned, and this site writes about physical buildings, hotels and regulated casino floors only.
Which is the oldest house in the ten?
Wrest Point in Hobart is the oldest of the ten, and the official wording calls it Australia’s first ever casino and says it was born in 1973. The date 10 February 1973 is from Wikipedia, so I treat that exact day as secondary-source history rather than an official venue line. Its essay is at /houses/wrest-point, and the broader sequence is set out on /timeline.
Which is the newest house in the ten?
The Star Brisbane is the newest operating house in the ten. Its staged opening began on 29 August 2024 at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, after Treasury Brisbane casino closed at midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024. The Star Grand opened with 340 hotel rooms, according to the opening release. Treasury Brisbane is treated here only as history, not as a current casino hotel.
Who owns or operates the Crown houses today?
Crown Melbourne is operated by Crown Melbourne Limited, a subsidiary of Crown Resorts Limited, and the facts record that Crown Resorts was acquired by the Blackstone Group in 2022. Crown Perth’s licensee is Burswood Nominees Limited, with the property in the Crown Resorts group, also recorded as acquired by Blackstone in 2022. Crown Sydney is recorded under Crown Resorts Limited, and the NSW regulator has referred to Crown Sydney holding the Crown Restricted Gaming Licence.
Who owns or operates the Star houses today?
The Star Sydney is recorded as owned and operated by The Star Entertainment Group Limited, with the casino licence held by The Star Pty Limited. Its licence remains suspended, and the manager’s appointment for The Star Sydney casino has been extended to 30 June 2027, unless terminated earlier by the NICC. The Star Brisbane wording is exact from the facts: “The Star also manages ... The Star Brisbane, on behalf of the Destination Brisbane Consortium (DBC) owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) and Far East Consortium International (FEC)”.
Who owns or operates the other houses?
Wrest Point is linked in the facts to Federal Group, with medium confidence because the wording combines official venue material and Wikipedia ownership detail. Country Club Tasmania is also attributed to Federal Group by secondary sources. Mindil Beach Casino Resort is shown as “Hospitality By” Delaware North, with Wikipedia saying Delaware North bought the property in April 2019. Lasseters is attributed by secondary sources to Lasseters International Holdings Pty. Ltd., while the hotel is franchised to IHG as Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters. SkyCity Adelaide is operated by SkyCity Adelaide Pty Limited, a subsidiary of SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited.
What is happening with SkyCity Adelaide?
SkyCity Adelaide remains in the list with Eos by SkyCity as its hotel. A SkyCity market release dated 30 September 2026 said that, after a strategic review announced on 20 August 2026, SkyCity would shortly commence a formal sale process for the Adelaide business, with no certainty that the process would result in a transaction or other outcome. As of 2026-10-23, the facts record no completed sale or buyer.
Are the casino floors 18+?
Yes. The facts set a country rule that the minimum age for casino entry is 18 across all states and territories. Several venues also say it directly: The Star Sydney says guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the casino; Crown Sydney’s casino is part of the NSW regulated setting; SkyCity Adelaide says a person must be 18 years or older to enter any gaming area; Mindil Beach and Lasseters also print 18+ wording. State-by-state notes are at /states.
Does this site take bookings?
This site is a review and booking-request desk, not a hotel front desk and not a gambling site. You can follow a “go to the hotel” link from an essay to the official hotel or venue site, or you can write to the desk with dates, travellers and the house you are considering. The desk can check a room by email. It does not ask for card details. The earnings model is explained at /how-we-earn.
Can I gamble through this website?
No. This website does not offer casino play, accounts, deposits, casino credit, online games or promotions. Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, and the houses covered here are physical venues with hotels attached or closely connected. The editorial interest is the building, the company record, the setting, the published stay, and whether a traveller should sleep there.
How independent is the site?
The site is independent of the houses, operators and regulators. Rankings are editorial and are not for sale. The method uses five criteria: story and building, the stay today as published, setting, transparency, and continuity of operation. Where a source is secondary or limited, the essays say so rather than smoothing the gap. You can read the method at /method, the comparison at /compare, and the desk note at /about.
A letter to the desk
Ask the desk to look into a stay
Tell the desk your dates and the house you have in mind; it asks the hotel about a room and the current rate and writes back by email, usually within one working day. No card details are taken here.
