The ten house essays
This is the doorway to the ten longer essays, set in the same order as the ranking on the front page. I read each house first as a building and a company, then as a place to sleep, eat, arrive and leave, using official sources where they publish enough and naming secondary sources where they do not.

The ten — Essays

Wrest Point
Australia’s first casino by the official story, a Federal Group house on the Derwent, with tower, wing and Motor Inn rooms described from published sources.

Crown Melbourne
The Southbank complex brings three Crown hotels, river setting, official operating detail and a 2026 redevelopment announcement into one long Melbourne essay.

Crown Perth
Burswood’s river complex is read through its three hotels, theatre, parking and published 2026 changes, with room counts identified as secondary where required.

The Star Sydney
Pyrmont’s house is covered with The Darling, The Star Grand, Foundation Theatres context and the neutral regulatory sentence on the suspended licence.

SkyCity Adelaide and Eos
The Adelaide railway-station casino and 120-room Eos are treated through official and secondary records, including the 30 September 2026 sale-process announcement.

Country Club Tasmania
Prospect Vale’s parkland house is considered as Federal Group history by secondary sources, with golf, villas and published room categories kept separate.

Mindil Beach
Darwin’s beachfront resort is read through Delaware North ownership wording, conflicting room counts, two pools, the beach setting and the venue’s own disclosures.

Lasseters, Alice Springs
The Alice Springs essay stays close to verified material: IHG hotel operation, secondary ownership, MacDonnell Ranges setting and what the resort does not publish.

Crown Sydney
Barangaroo’s tower is treated as hotel, harbour building and restricted gaming licence story, with valet rates and licence status taken from published records.

The Star Brisbane
Queen’s Wharf closes the order, carrying the Treasury Brisbane changeover, exact operator wording, The Star Grand rooms, Sky Deck and new ownership structure.
Reading the houses in order
The order here follows how the houses are ranked: story and building, the stay today as published, setting, transparency, and continuity of operation. It is not a gambling guide, and it is not a claim that one room will suit every traveller. Australia’s online casino ban under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 sits behind the whole site; these essays are about physical hotels attached to licensed venues, with casino entry restricted to adults.
I begin at Wrest Point because the record allows the story to begin there, on 10 February 1973 by secondary sources, with the official site calling it Australia’s first casino and born in 1973. From there the essays move through the large Crown complexes, the suspended-licence complication at The Star Sydney, the Adelaide railway-station house, the second Tasmanian Federal Group property, the Northern Territory resorts, Crown Sydney’s Barangaroo tower, and finally The Star Brisbane, where Treasury Brisbane is treated only as history because its casino closed on 25 August 2024.
If you want the shorter view before choosing an essay, use the comparison or the timeline, 1973 to today. If state rules matter to your plans, I keep a separate by state page. Each individual essay ends plainly: go to the hotel, or ask our desk.
A letter to the desk
Ask the desk to look into a stay
Tell the desk your dates and the house you have in mind; it asks the hotel about a room and the current rate and writes back by email, usually within one working day. No card details are taken here.
